Goat Head Love

Now come reports that puncture vine is an aphrodisiac [via plastic]. Know locally as Goat Heads, puncture vine is an evil plant that punctures bike tires, cuts through shoes, and criples animals .

Okay, so now I just need to plan a picnic and get a gal to roll around on Goat Heads with me.

Sounds like a Good Idea?

Capturing the Moon

My friend John Gilmore pointed me to the web site of a photographer buddy his Tom Talbott. This is pretty cool, Tom is taking photo's of each day in the moons cycle. This is a pretty big project, especially when you consider the weather conditions in Seattle.

Kalpana Chawla

And excellent story about the Mission of STS-107 includes this beautiful observation by Kalpana Chawla:

When asked Wednesday to talk about amazing moments during the shuttle's 16-day mission, which ends this weekend, Kalpana Chawla described an unusual sight.

From the orbiter's flight deck, as a sunset overtook the view, she began to see her own reflection in the overhead windows, along with the bright and dark sides of the Earth.

"In the retina of my eye, the whole Earth and the sky could be seen reflected," she said Wednesday. "So I called all the crew members one by one, and they saw it, and everybody said, 'Oh, wow!'"

VOA reports on India morning the lost.

Speaking just prior to the shuttle Columbia's launch last month, Kalpana Chawla said she was awed by space travel. "Just looking at earth, looking at the stars during the night part of earth; just looking at our planet roll by and the speed at which it goes by and the awe that it inspires; just so many such good thoughts come to your mind when you see all that," she said. "Doing it again is like living a dream, a good dream once again."

NPR's coverage has been excellent. They were a few minutes slow to get on the story, but they have had very high quality reporting and analysis.

A blogger with TV capture reports on the media coverage.
